  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water.

Keep in mind that cold water gargling is ineffective. Make the water warm and dilute salt in it. It is best to make it fresh each time before use. Do not reuse the water as it might worsen your condition. Do not swallow the gargle. Make sure you spit it out after gargling.

  1. Ginger, Honey, Lemon and Water

As we very well know, ginger is a handy aid for throat pains. The combination of ginger, honey and lemon does miracle to the infections such as cold, cough and throat aches.


  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ cup warm or hot water (tolerable heat)
  • ½ lemon extract

Gargle the mixture and get an instant relief from throat ache and infections. The anti-bacterial content in the ingredients coats the throat and prevents you from further infection.

  1. Garlic

We know you wouldn’t prefer this remedy. But, we swear it gives you an instant relief. Although you might have to tolerate the repulsive taste and odour, it’s totally worth it. Garlic’s contains allicin, a compound that can kill the bacteria that causes the infection and fight the germs causing pain and irritation.


  • A fresh clove of garlic (cut into half)

Keep it adjacent to one of your cheeks and suck the juice like cough drop. You can also bite/crunch on the piece occasionally to extract more juice.

  1. Turmeric Milk

Turmeric and milk is a proven combination for any chronic aliment. Turmeric has powerful anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties to fight against chronic infections such as cold, cough and sore throat.


  • 1 cup of hot milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried turmeric powder / 1 inch piece of fresh turmeric

You can also add up smashed ginger and honey to make it more effective and soothing. Try to have a glass of the mixture before you go to bed. Turmeric and milk is proven to give a good night’s sleep with no disturbing sore throat and dry cough.

  1. Black Pepper and Common Salt

Black pepper is an effective home remedy for throat infection, especially if have dry cough tagging along a sore throat. When mixed with common salt crystals, pepper instantly clears out the bacterial infection and no more sore throat.


  • 1 teaspoon powdered black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon crystal salt
  • Warm water

Mix till the crystal salt dissolves in the hot water. Gargle with the mixture mentioned above for an instant relief from cough, cold and throat infections.
